18 men arrested for cock-fighting during Belait raid

Eighteen men were apprehended during a police raid on a cock-fighting activity in Kampong Bukit Puan, Mukim Labi in Belait District on Friday, according to the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF).

Police said the raid conducted around noon was a collaboration between the Belait District Police Headquarters and Kuala Belait, Seria, Panaga and Sungai Liang police stations.

During the raid, the men were gathering around a ring believed to be used for the illegal activity and upon noticing police presence, they dispersed with their roosters.

Police confiscated nine roosters, gambling apparatus and cash believed to be used for cock-
fighting bets.

The suspects and evidence were brought to the Belait Police District Headquarters for further questioning and investigation.

The suspects will be charged under the Common Gaming House Act Chapter 28. If found guilty they will face a fine of BND10,000 and six months imprisonment.

They are also facing a charge for animal cruelty under Section 25(1), Chapter 30 of the Minor Offences Act. If found guilty, they will be fined BND1,000 or imprisoned for three months.
