Around 1,600 individuals joined the Brunei Run 2024, held in conjunction with World Heart Day 2024, at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien on Sunday.

The event, organised by Gleaneagles JPMC Sdn Bhd in collaboration with the Health Promotion Centre, was also part of Bandarku Ceria.

Gleaneagles JPMC CEO Dr Peter Tay Boon Chye emphasised the importance of heart health. “Cardiovascular diseases can be prevented, and today’s event serves as a reminder to stay active, make healthy choices, and encourage others to do the same,” he said in his opening remarks.

Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar officiated the event, which began with the 10km open category run for both men and women. It was followed by an aerobics session and the flag-off for the three-kilometre run.

Other activities included a lucky draw, with the grand prize being a treadmill donated by Boeffi, as well as a pavilion featuring exhibits on heart health and lifestyle programmes.

World Heart Day is observed annually on September 29. This year’s theme, “Use Heart for Action,” focuses on individual responsibility, community effort and equal access to health.

The Ministry of Health hopes that the Brunei Run, along with the walkathon and exhibition, will raise awareness about the importance of heart health among individuals and the broader community.
