Sixteen households received disaster relief in the form of government financial aid in a handover ceremony held at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) yesterday.
The aid provided through the Community Development Department (JAPEM) was handed over to representatives of victims of fire, floods and strong winds by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.
The victims included two families involved in house fires, two family involved in floods while 12 families had their homes damaged due to strong winds.
On January 29, a fire in Kampong Sungai Belukut gutted a home and a 70-year-old senior citizen died during the incident. Another fire also destroyed a home in Kampong Katok on January 10.
Continuous rainfall from December 4-6, 2021 flooded two houses in Kampong Junjongan and Kampong Madewa were affected.
On November 7, 2021, strong winds blew away or damaged rooftops of 12 homes at RPN Kampong Pandan C in the Belait District.
JAPEM said the distribution of financial assistance aimed to ease the burdens of victims following such tragedies.
