15 youth leaders in Singapore on exchange programme

Some 15 youth leaders from various professional backgrounds left the Sultanate yesterday to participate in the ninth Singapore-Brunei Youth Leadership Exchange Programme.

The programme is a platform for future youth leaders to meet, exchange ideas and knowledge and strengthen bilateral relation between the two countries.

The programme involves the participation of 30 youth aged 22 to 35 of both countries in professions related to youth affairs, such as education, leadership, entrepreneurship, community and youth development, science and health, and volunteering.

The Singapore-Brunei Youth Leadership Exchange Programme is held on a rotational basis and it is physically held for the first time in Singapore since 2019 following the COVID-19 pandemic recovery.

The programme is themed ‘Volunteering’, which aims to explore how youth can participate in volunteering activities in a more sustainable, effective and collaborative manner with various stakeholders and ensure it is effective and inclusive in driving progress among communities. “With the continuous implementation of this programme, it’s hoped that it can produce leaders from the young generation in both countries who can and will cooperate in strengthening the relationship between the two countries; promote understanding and unity of ‘nextgen’ leaders; and assist in improving the understanding of both countries’ policies, systems and relationships; and encourage discussion and exchange of views or propositions from the representatives of both countries,” it said in a statement.

The five-day programme is jointly managed by the National Youth Council (NYC) under Singapore’s Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and Brunei’s Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), coordinated by the Brunei Youth Council (BYC) as a strategic partner. Director of Youth and Sports Development Division at the MCYS Zainab binti Haji Morshidi was present at the Brunei International Airport to bid farewell to the youth leaders.
