Ten youth Al-Quran readers – five qari and five qariah – alongside last year’s champions have advanced to the National Al-Quran Reading Competition final round for Youth for 1445 Hijrah.
The competition’s semi-finals took place at the Youth Centre’s Silaturahim Hall in the capital yesterday, where 30 participants, comprising 23 qari and seven qariah, competed.
Twenty participants delivered their recitations in the morning session, while another 10 delivered theirs in the afternoon.
Chairman of the panel of judges for the semi-final Mohammad Ali Sabri bin Haji Yusof announced the names of the final round participants.
Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, the guest of honour, presented certificates to the participants.
Director of Department of Youth and Sports (JBS) Umi Kalthum binti Haji Abdul Karim, as the organising committee chairman, said the competition is an annual project to produce talented male and female Al-Quran readers who can represent the Sultanate at a higher level of competition in the future.
She added that the competition aims to enhance the performance and quality of Al-Quran readers and nurture friendship among participants. The director said the competition is divided into three levels – the preliminary, semi-final and final rounds – with 121 youth, comprising 80 male and 41 female readers, taking part the competition.
The final round will be held on June 6.
A special programme, dubbed ‘Kemahiran Ilmu Al-Quran’, was carried out on April 27 and 28 at Digadong Hall of the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports (MCYS) where participants received guidance from professional and skilled Al-Quran readers.
