A local was recently jailed for 10 months for driving his vehicle into a family and then fleeing the scene.
The charge against Mohammad Emir Danial bin Sabollah, 25, was for driving in a rash manner and endangering people’s lives or causing injury.
Senior Magistrate Azrimah Abdul Rahman on Monday heard from Prosecutor Siti Khalillah bin Hussin that the defendant was asked to pick up a friend in Kampong Jangsak on July 25 night.
The defendant drove over to the house and as he was arriving, saw some people in front of his car.
The family of three – a woman and her husband who was carrying their daughter in his arms – waved to get the defendant’s attention.
Instead of stopping, the defendant drove into the family.
The woman stepped aside but the man carrying his daughter was still in the way when the defendant rammed into them.
This caused the man and his daughter to hit the hood of the car.
The defendant reversed and stepped on the brakes.
The manoeuvre caused the man and his daughter to fall off the hood and hit the ground. The defendant then sped-off.
The couple alerted the police who located the defendant on August 3 and arrested him.
According to police investigations, the couple sold gold to the defendant’s friend but were cheated.
This made them go to the defendant’s friend’s house.
The defendant’s friend escaped before the couple could stop him. Seeing the defendant, they tried to ask the defendant’s help to look for the friend. – Fadley Faisal
