Zakat distributed to poor, destitute in Tutong

The Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) yesterday held a Zakat (tithe) distribution presentation ceremony that saw BND26,130 distributed among 50 Tutong District recipients comprising the poor and destitute in the Sultanate at Kampong Keriam Mosque, Tutong District.

The ceremony aimed to alleviate the recipients’ financial burden in preparation for Hari Raya festivities.

Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Religious) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) and a member of the MUIB Haji Mohd Serudin bin Haji Timbang, the guest of honour, presented the donations.

The Zakat allocation is taken from the fund for the poor and destitute category of Zakat recipients through the collection of Zakat Fitrah (tithe) and Zakat Harta (property tithe) in 1442 Hijrah/2021 amounting to BND18,894,594.76.

Prior to the ceremony, a Tedarus Al-Quran was held by the delegation of MoRA officers and staff at the mosque.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the guest of honour, followed by Tadabbur Al-Quran by Imam of Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque, Tutong Mohammad Waiz bin Tajuddin.

The event continued with Tedarus Al-Quran, the recitation of Tahlil and Doa Arwah, and the recitation of Doa Allah Peliharakan Sultan and Negara Brunei Darussalam.

The closing ceremony for the Tedarus Al-Quran will be held at Kampong Belimbing Subok Mosque on April 21.
