Youth on better footing on diplomatic work, responsibilities

The High Commission of India in Brunei Darussalam invited Brunei Youth Council (BYC) members to catch a glimpse of the work and responsibilities of a diplomat on Thursday. The high commission joined hands with the BYC to harness the youth and give an overview of the overall function of a diplomatic mission with the view of encouraging them take up responsibilities for a better tomorrow.

As part of the celebrations for Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav ‘India @75’, the initiative was taken by the high commission to prepare youth for shouldering responsibilities and taking up their roles as the leaders of the future. The message was to prepare oneself to embody the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which means the world is a family and everyone should work for its welfare.

Legislative Council (LegCo) member and BYC President Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari, who led the youth delegation, was received on arrival by High Commissioner of India to Brunei Darussalam Ajaneesh Kumar.

The high commissioner described the tenets of diplomacy and provided insights into aspects of the work handled by a diplomatic mission in its day to day work, namely, political, economic and commerce, tourism, cultural relations and people-to-people linkages, scholarships and capacity building programmes and consular matters. He also shared tips drawn from his experience as a senior diplomat.
