The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, through the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, is currently conducting a four-day course to expose high technology farming to youth.
Initiated yesterday at the Horticulture Rimba Business Centre in Gadong, the opening session included briefings by Director of Agriculture and Agrifood Hajah Aidah binti Haji Mohd Hanafiah and other officers from the department.
The youth participants were briefed on investment opportunities in crops industry, financial simulation for agriculture using high technology, and market opportunities in local supermarkets.
The participants also toured several supermarkets and agricultural enterprises including Supasave, Hua Ho Department Store, RZ Prisma Enterprise, Syarikat Greenthumb Farms Sdn Bhd, Ladang Tunas Harapan and Riverland Agriculture Farm.
The project is part of the department’s 2016-2022 strategic plan to boost the involvement of local youth in the agricultural sector, while promoting the use of high technology and production technology for industrial crops.
Apart from encouraging local farmers and youths to intensify production, the project is also hoped to instil among them a sense of independence, in addition to boosting production for domestic and foreign markets.
