THE Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) invited aspiring young Bruneians to be part of the International Basketball Foundation (IBF) Youth Leadership Programme.
Selected candidates will attend the IBF Youth Leadership Seminar in Singapore in May and lead a team to the IBF 3×3 Youth Leaders Basketball Cup in Bali, Indonesia in September.
According to a press statement, BBA is looking for passionate individuals who are keen to learn and develop his/her leadership skills, and while it is preferred, BBA stated that it is not a compulsory trait to be a basketball player.
Candidates must be citizens or permanent residents of Brunei Darussalam aged between 20 to 25 years, and can speak fluent English while being able to demonstrate leadership qualities and are committed to the development of basketball. They must possess valid passports and are able to travel to Singapore and Bali.
The event is divided into three parts: Part One – IBF Leadership Seminar (May 24-26) in Singapore, where one will represent Brunei Darussalam to participate in an intensive youth leadership training. Before attending, the young leader must complete FIBA’s 3×3 E-Learning qualification. During the seminar, the young leader will participate in a leadership workshop, assist in the running of a local 3×3 event in Singapore, as well as learn how to address key Sustainable Development Goals within organising his or her own 3×3 tournament.
Part Two – Mixed Under-18 Qualifying events (June–August 16), where the young leader has to work with BBA to deliver a FIBA registered mixed Under-18 3×3 event in Brunei as a qualifying event for the Youth Leaders Basketball Cup. The mixed qualifying event must have a minimum of 16 teams for the winning team to be eligible to be invited to the Youth Leaders Basketball Cup.
Part Three – Youth Leaders Basketball Cup (September 27–29) in Bali, Indonesia. The winning team from the Mixed Under-18 qualifying tournaments in each participating country will travel to Bali, Indonesia with the young leader from the Leadership Seminar as Team Manager. They will compete in the international 3×3 event IBF Youth Leaders Basketball Cup. The team will represent their nation in a fully funded, high quality 3×3 basketball experience. They will also be given opportunity to participate in a youth leadership workshop with all players from the participating countries where they will learn about communication, decision-making and leadership skills, and develop an enhance ability to handle adversity.
