Youth empowerment in the spotlight

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad attended the launch of The Global Network for Youth Competitiveness, ‘Hope Network,’ on Tuesday, hosted by Bahrain’s Ministry of Youth Affairs.

The ‘Hope Network’ aims to be a comprehensive platform in providing services to countries that have recognised the importance of fostering hope and providing positive confidence among the youth; supporting the role of the youth in developing their countries and around the world.

Ministers responsible for youth affairs from Cambodia, Algeria, Turkiye, Pakistan, Morocco, Kyrgyzstan, China, Cyprus, Italy, South Africa, Tunisia, Russia, Libya, the United States and Gulf Cooperation Council member countries were present, along with representatives from the United Nations Youth Office, the Sirius Federal Territory Council, and the League of Arab States. The ceremony coincided with the Silver Jubilee celebration of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, King of Bahrain’s ascension to the throne.

His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa leads the initiative, representing His Majesty, the King of Bahrain in humanitarian and youth affairs.

During the event, Brunei Darussalam, along with other member countries, showcased videos of their best practices in youth development.

During the ceremony, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi met with Bahrain’s Minister of Youth Affairs Rawan bint Najeeb Tawfiqi.

They discussed the challenges facing youth affairs and exchanged views on best practices and potential areas for bilateral cooperation.

Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi along with other leaders, signed the ‘Hope Network Charter’ reaffirming Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to supporting Bahrain’s efforts to empower youth globally.

This aligns with the National Youth Policy and Strategy 2020–2035, which focuses on youth empowerment through regional and international cooperation, with the goal of enhancing youth contributions across various sectors and gaining international recognition.

Accompanying Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi were the Chargé d’Affaires of the Brunei Darussalam Embassy in Bahrain and officials from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. – James Kon
