The Youth Transformation Community Club (KKBT) gained a better understanding of petanque through an introductory workshop held by the Brunei Darussalam Petanque Federation (BDPF) yesterday.
The workshop was divided into two parts – a morning theory session at the Youth Centre in the capital and an afternoon practical session at the Petanque Court of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex.
Twenty-five participants were briefed on the French national sport’s history at the theory session. They were also briefed on the establishment of the Brunei Darussalam Petanque Federation which is responsible for local petanque affairs and activities. The theory session also covered rules and regulations, attire and equipment, ways of holding boules, ways of playing petanque and the point system.
The practical session featured a demonstration of singles, doubles and triples events, categories which are typically contested and standardised in competitions.
“We learnt a lot. The practical session focussed on how to play petanque,” said participant Mohammad Riwandy bin Ramli.
Upon completion, he expressed interest in joining future training schemes and learning more.
Brunei Darussalam Petanque Federation President Haji Mohamad bin Panglima Asgar Dato Paduka Haji Abdullah presented certificates of participation.
