Forty young cancer survivors from six countries, including Brunei Darussalam, gathered for the 11th Cancer Survivor Camp 2024 to share experiences and participate in various activities.
Organised by the Children’s Cancer Foundation (YASKA), the three-day camp is taking place at the Fuzhou Shiyyi Association’s building.
Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar attended the opening ceremony on Saturday.
YASKA President Tsara’ Nawwarah binti Abdullah Chen, in her opening remarks, said, “The camp was started in 2013 to provide our survivors a venue where they can give support and hope to each other. Our survivors have faced challenges that most cannot imagine, and yet here you are, braver and stronger.” She added, “We have lined up activities ranging from focusing on creativity, problem-solving to team-building, all aimed at fostering connections and new friendships.”
She also thanked the sponsors, volunteers, the medical team as well as allied health professionals who have come together to make the event possible.
The participants are from Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Mongolia and Indonesia. – James Kon
