You-C1000 Cup to see new champion as D’Barkadz lose

D’Barkadz’s reign as defending champions came to an end following a 85-91 loss to Amaron in the quarterfinals of the You-C1000 Cup 2024 at the Brunei Basketball Association Court in Batu Bersurat on Monday.

The drama-filled You-C1000 Cup took another twist as Amaron pulled another major scalp sending a champion packing, which has been a recurring theme.

The holders’ elimination means that a new champion will be crowned this year having seen Easyway and TK Tea House dump out of the competition.

Earlier, TK Teahouse crashed out from the tournament by a single point after Eric Palanca inspired Wan Sing to a 86-85 win.

And it was Easyway turn to exit the tournament after falling to a 78-64 loss to Propel Services & Trading, who exacted redemption during a loss in the semi-final last year.

Amaron star Chris Chiew led his team with a personal tally of 20 points while veteran Esmond Tan registered 15 points.

D’Barkadz team captain Jomarie Corpuz produced a valiant effort to drag his side single-handedly to victory but to no avail as his 32-point run came unrewarded.

The newcomers will join Yuni-ku, Propel Services & Trading and Wan Sing in the last-four.

The tournament will not be lined up by either Easyway or TK Teahouse in the final four for the first time, two sides that have engaged in a fierce rivalry over the years.

All qualified teams in the semi-finals will play tomorrow with the title decider set to be staged the next day. – Fadhil Yunus
