Yi’s Nation V2 preserved their unbeaten record in the 5.11 National Basketball League after a 86-69 victory over Team 409 at the Brunei Basketball Association Court in Batu Bersurat last night.
The title-chasing Yi’s Nation V2 registered a sixth consecutive victory in the tournament with two remaining matches to play. They will be fighting against Easyway Basketball, who are also undefeated on May 2 and their sister team Yi’s Nation on May 7.
Despite the difference in league positions, it was the underdogs Team 409 who brought the game to the favourites, using a sequence of passes to take the early lead.
Yi’s Nation V2 however looked to assert dominance on court when Marcus Lim brought the game 8-7 in their favour following an assist from Termizi Noorden.
The first quarter ended 16-16 after Team 409 under-23 player Ten Ming Song dropped a three-pointer into the basket at the last second.
Team 409 moved another gear at the start of the second quarter as under-23 player Joseph Newn racked a couple of assists.
With Team 409 leading, Yi Nation chased the game as Lim converted following a pass from a teammate while Noorden came up with a two-pointer to reduce the gap.
But, Team 409 continued their razor sharp form and pulled away with a double-digit lead with six points coming from Darren Shim Yung Chong including a three-pointer.
Team 409 opened up an 11-point lead in the third quarter following a combination of solid defence and precise shot-making in attack.
However, Yi’s Nation recovered and led 30-6 in the third quarter to wipe out the deficit. The league pace-setters limited their opponents to just nine points in the final quarter whilst adding 23 more points.
The competition continues tonight with the Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) taking on Tutong Basketball and the women’s match between Shooting Star and Tutong Basketball.
