Yi’s Nation sealed a sixth successive victory in the 5.11 National Basketball League after an 83-71 win over Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) at the Brunei Basketball Association Court in Batu Bersurat last night.
An exciting finale to the competition is on the cards with a clash between Yi’s Nation and Yi’s Nation V2 on May 7 with both sides boasting a similar record of six wins and a loss.
BBA are chasing for their first victory since their opening match against Team 409.
The team has another shot to get a second win when they face Belait District Basketball Association (BDBA) in a crucial match on Thursday night. Yi’s Nation under-23 player Tan Kun Hor emerged the leading scorer for his team with 23 points while Lim Liang Wei had 18 points.
Brunei Basketball Association raced into a 23-16 lead in the first quarter but Yi’s Nation closed the gap to give them an opportunity to turn the tie around.
Lim Liang Wei got Yi’s Nation to a bright start in the second quarter after evading the defence for a two-pointer shot. Yi’s Nation team captain Han Ming Kwang performed his defensive duties to initiate an attack, which was completed by Tan Kun Hor with a two-point finish.
Tan Kun Hor was on a roll after making 15 out of his team’s 20 points in the second quarter including three three-pointer shots as Yi’s Nation overcame the deficit.
BBA under-23 player Adam Lee Jun Hong hit a three-pointer to restore his side’s lead before Yi’s Nation fired back in a see-saw battle.
Masduqi Hussin quickly came into the thick of action in the second quarter and played a central role in leading the BBA’s attack.
BBA team captain Kenny Lim hit a three-pointer as both teams were locked in points 36-36 heading into the 10-minute breather.
However, Yi’s Nation came out in the second half fully rejuvenated and enjoyed a commanding third quarter before closing the match with victory.
The competition continues tonight with Belait District Basketball Association taking on Tutong Basketball while title-chasing Easyway Basketball will take on Team 409.
