Wushu Federation of Brunei Darussalam organised an appreciation dinner for the national wushu team to mark their success in the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Cambodia.
Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, the guest of honour, presented incentives to the athletes while Wushu Federation of Brunei Darussalam Secretary-General Ang Ju Ming handed over incentives to national wushu coaches Li Hui and Zhao Chunji as well as assistant coach Ang Lu Guan.
Mohamad Adi Salihin bin Roslan and Hosea Wong Zheng Yu won gold medals in Cambodia while Basma Lachkar, Majdurano Joel Majallah Sain and Abel Lim Wee Yuan earned bronzes in the regional meet. Athletes Lim Yee Sean and Walid Lachkar also received incentives.
Secretary-General Ang said the celebration was held to recognise the achievements and roles played by coaches as well as support by the MCYS. Without their supports, Ang said, the athletes would not have reach such heights.
He said the medals symbolised the athletes’ individual accomplishments but also the efforts of the coaches, support from both the Youth and Sports Department and the federation as well as the athletes’ parents.
The secretary-general said the federation owes coaches Li and Zhao a debt of gratitude for providing guiding light, nurturing the athletes and shaping them into champions. He said the coaches’ expertise, patience and belief in the athletes’ potential have transformed dreams into reality.
Ang also announced that Wong was nominated as athlete of the month for June by the Wushu Federation of Asia.
Wushu Federation of Brunei Darussalam President Lim Boon Hwa, Chef De Mission of Brunei Contingent to the 32nd SEA Games Zainab binti Haji Morshidi and Director of Youth and Sports Umi Kalthum binti Haji Abdul Karim were also present.
