Workshop for aspiring young writers

The Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) through its Literature and Magazine Division is hosting a short-story writing workshop under the Young Writers Programme 2020 at the Sarmayuda Hall of DBP at the Old Airport beginning yesterday. The workshop continues until tomorrow.

Head of the Literature and Magazine Division Dr Haji Mohd Ali bin Haji Raidin said the workshop is the third installment of the programme. The next workshop will be on drama and novel writing.

The Young Writers Programme is aimed at honing the skills of aspiring young writers. It is hoped that the workshop will inspire the youth to continue the literary tradition of the country by producing literary works of notable quality, he added.

Participants will be briefed on basic short-story writing skills as well as an understanding of the creative writing process.

At the end of the three-day workshop, participants will produce short stories to be published in DBP’s magazine.

The workshop is facilitated by Dr Chong Ah Fok and chaired by Assistant Writer at DBP Abu Zar bin Abdullah. The workshop is open to the public aged 15 to 35.
