Workshop empowers Muslim women in funeral management

A workshop on funeral management guidance for Muslim women was held nationwide to equip participants with theoretical knowledge, procedures and practical skills related to funeral management.

The workshop, conducted by the Mosque Affairs Department in collaboration with the Mosque Affairs Office, was divided into three phases. The first phase took place in 2022, while the second and third phases were held in May and June 2023 in selected mosques across the country. The workshop involved the participation of Muslim women representing 22 mosques.

A certificate presentation ceremony for the participants was held at the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque. Spouse of the Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administration and Finance) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Fairuz binti Haji Zulkifli, the guest of honour, presented certificates to the participants.

The workshop aimed to increase understanding and confidence among Muslim women in mosque management of corpses. It also encouraged active and voluntary involvement from Muslim women in mosque outreach groups. These groups will facilitate the public, especially those in rural and remote areas, in accessing funeral management services. – Azlan Othman
