ORATORY skills and English Language proficiency are important and necessary if one has to express a message or voice an opinion, said an expert in the language at an English Oratory Workshop at the International Convention Centre yesterday.

Centre for Promotion of Knowledge and Language at the Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) Assistant lecturer Nurul Naqibah binti Bahar added that the workshop entailed lessons and training on concepts such as voice changes and tonal expression when speaking, the technique of speaking itself, and public speaking with confidence and clarity.

Speaking English efficiently is also an important component in the concepts of youth leadership, as one has to enhance their communication skills. This workshop can be deemed as one of the initial steps to be taken in the development of their leadership skills, she added further.

Skilled communicator Dr Hakimah binti Yaacob from the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Finance at UNISSA was a speaker at the workshop.

The Centre for the Promotion of Knowledge and Language was the organiser of the English Oratory Workshop designated as part of the programme of UNISSA’s 8th Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj (convocation festival).

The participants were students from UNISSA, sixth form centres, and Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College.

Looking to promote knowledge and skills in languages, the centre plays a very important role and is committed in efforts to produce graduates of high quality who are well-presented, open-minded and able to serve the needs of the community and the country.
