It is the responsibility of all to be loyal to a leader who is just and fair, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) Assistant Rector (Student Affairs and Alumni) Dr Hajah Lilly Suzana binti Haji Shamsu said.

“In obedience, women are not exempted. They play a role in joining hands with the men in devoting their loyalty to the king as the highest leader of the country,” she said.

She said this in a talk entitled ‘Wanita dan Kemajuan Ummah’ at the Semarak Hari Keputeraan event at the Musyawarah Hall of International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas yesterday.

The event to enliven His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 76th birthday celebration this year was held by the Information Department under the Prime Minister’s Office through its Nationhood Unit, Strategic Communications Division.

Minister of Education Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh was the guest of honour.

Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin along with chair of the ceremony Acting Deputy Director of Information Sastra Sarini binti Haji Julaini were also present.

This year’s programme focussed on female officers and staff from the government, uniform personnel, representatives of public relations committees of ministries and government departments, representatives from private companies and non-governmental organisations.

The programme aimed to instil loyalty and love among citizens and residents for the monarch while increasing awareness on the role and responsibilities of the people towards the king as well as respect and affection for the king as a symbol of greatness and sovereignty of the nation.
