Both under-18 boys and girls winners will represent Brunei to compete at the IBF Youth Leaders Basketball Cup in Bali from September 26-30. Along with participants from 16 other countries, they will gain world class basketball experience through the programme, as well as able to participate in a Youth Leadership Seminar where they will learn and develop essential life skills such as communication, teamwork and leadership.
Brunei’s IBF Youth Leader 2019 Ashley said, “I would like to thank the Deputy Director of the Youth and Sports Department Mariam binti Ulat for gracing the tournament, Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) and FIBA for all the support they have given me throughout the preparation of this tournament, Pusat Ehsan, and also my sponsors, Syarikat Perniagaan Malar Setia and Easyway for their generosity. It has always been a goal of mine to give back to the community. Thus, I am very glad that through this tournament, I am able to achieve both my goals to develop youth basketball and build inclusive sports opportunities for those with disabilities and raise awareness for the special needs.”
Deputy Director of Youth and Sports lauded the competition as a good platform for youth.
“The tournament is a good avenue for youth to be exposed to competition at their age group. It also promotes the game of basketball amongst youth. Regular competition at age group is important so that the players will train more.”
Meanwhile, BBA also donated BND500 to Pusat Ehsan yesterday.
