Wijaya FC introduced a 25-member playing squad as well as members of the coaching staff ahead of the much-anticipated Brunei Super League during the club’s pre-season gathering at the BBQ Tonight Restaurant in Kiulap last night.
A club representative in his remarks said the players in action in the Super League have been chosen and assessed not based on name and seniority but their selection was determined by a combination of features.
They have been assessed based on their standard, commitment, discipline and progress as well as character and personality. The assessment has also been conducted by members of the team management. As the players prepare for the upcoming 30-match long season, the team have been advised to protect the name of the club on and off the field.
“We will give our best efforts and hopefully what we have planned will bear fruit,” the club representative added. The club have added experienced striker Afindi Yati bin Tuah to their ranks and have also gone for youth with the arrival of a 17-year old player, the youngest member of the team. Jamrin Johari will lead the team as captain.
Among the highlights of the event was the unveiling of the new home, away and goalkeeper jerseys which the players will wear this season.
The club’s chairman, board of directors, general manager, officers and staff were also present. Wijaya, who finished third last season, will begin their campaign against MS PPDB at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex tomorrow.
