NEWLY-appointed Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong yesterday arrived in the country looking at further building the well-established relationship between Brunei Darussalam and China. This is her third time to be in Brunei Darussalam.
Present at the Brunei International Airport to welcome Yu Hong were officials from the Chinese Embassy in Brunei Darussalam and a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam.
In an interview with the Bulletin, Yu Hong expressed her appreciation to be appointed as the 11th Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam.
“I wish to send my regards to the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Bruneian people, through friends from the media.
“Under the wise leadership of His Majesty, the Bruneian government and Bruneian people work hard together and build a peaceful and prosperous country of harmony and happiness. As a friendly neighbour, the Chinese government and its people are sincerely happy to see the development and prosperity of Brunei,” she added.
China and Brunei’s friendship has a long history, starting nearly 2,000 years ago during China’s Western Han Dynasty.
The Tomb of the King of Boni in Nanjing and Jalan Ong Sum Ping in Bandar Seri Begawan witnessed the traditional friendship.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, bilateral relations are developing very fast and smoothly, characterised by mutual-respect and mutual support. President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping paid a successful State Visit to Brunei recently.
Led by the leaders of the two countries and with the joint efforts of the two countries, China-Brunei relation has entered a new stage and is now faced with a historical opportunity for further development.
“I look forward to working with the Bruneian side to consolidate and enrich China-Brunei Strategic Cooperative Partnership, bring more benefits to the two peoples, and promote regional peace, stability and prosperity,” she said.
