James Kon

Police personnel patrolling the Kampong Menengah boat landing area in the Temburong District arrested a local male, 24, and a foreign male, 26, for their alleged involvement in the smuggling of alcohol in the wee hours of yesterday.

According to the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), the sight of three suspicious individuals unloading packages from a boat into a vehicle caught the attention of personnel from Company ‘C’ Police Reserve Unit of the Special Operation Unit.

The team moved in, sending the trio fleeing in the direction of the river. The third suspect is still on the run. The packages were found to contain 204 bottles and 96 cans of alcohol.

The suspects and seized contraband were hauled to the Bangar Police Station. The case has since been handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department for investigation.
