Newly appointed Brunei National Football team head coach Datuk K Rajagobal hopes that the National League will kick off soon for Brunei national football players to get back into playing in preparation for the AFF Suzuki Cup. The playoff is set to be held in August.

The head coach highlighted his vision for the Brunei team, which is to prepare the national team for qualifying into the group stage of AFF Suzuki Cup.

Explaining the importance of the start of the national league, he said, “The national league has yet to kick off. It is not going to be easy because we need our players to play consistently. I hope the league can start soon.

“It will be very good news when we can have the opportunity to prepare the team. We need to have good preparation. I hope we can kick off the league early and then arrange friendly matches for the players. It has been over a year since the players have had competitive matches. It is going to be very challenging.”

The former Malaysian national footballer and team manager said, “It is a dream for Brunei if the national team can qualify for the group stage of AFF Suzuki Cup for the first time. Prior to this, we never made it to the group stage. We need to start somewhere.”

He hoped that stakeholders will help each other for the good of Brunei’s football.

On the signing, he expressed, “It is an honour and privilege to be head coach for the Brunei national team. I would like to thank the NFABD president for bringing me here, as well as the NFABD executive committee for the support. I am excited to take on this challenge. I was here in 1979 as a player for Selangor and then I came here as coach for Selangor and Malaysian coach. After 20 years, I am here again. It is special for me to be able to come to Brunei again.”
