Water disruption in several areas

The Public Works Department (JKR) announced that there is water discolouration in Brunei-Muara District.

JKR in a press release said the quality of raw water from Tutong River has been inconsistent with a high level of colour unit due to high mineral content and organic substance.

The department has increased operation to address the issue. However, the operation will affect several areas causing water disruption and low water pressure especially in places on high elevation.

Affected areas include Kampong Subok, Kampong Kota Batu, Kampong Kiarong, Kampong Lumapas, Kampong Tumasek, Kampong Lambak Kanan and surrounding areas.

The department is providing blue water tanks for the affected areas. In Kampong Subok, the tank is located at Taman Serubing, Kampong Belimbing Subok Mosque and the JAPEM Welfare Flat at Simpang 564.

In Kampong Lambak Kanan, the water tanks can be found at Jalan 49, Jalan 64, Jalan 11, near to Dato Marsal Primary School, the Police Post near the community hall in Jalan 77, Perpindahan Lambak Kanan Mosque and near to the Co-curriculum Education Department.

The JKR has stepped up efforts to address the issue by carrying out various operational works such as washing water storage tanks; using additional chemicals, ensuring all filtration tanks; clarifying ponds, chemical doses, pumps and so on at the Water Treatment Plant are functioning well; and monitoring the quality of raw water.

JKR is also constantly monitoring the quality of water supply based on the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The JKR has been conducting routine monitoring of water sample testing, as well as continuous flushing operations of water pipelines in the affected areas.

The public, especially those with home tanks and private water filters, are urged to make sure that the equipment is always in a clean condition through routine “flushing” and “backwashing”.
