After last year’s hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, well-wishers in Tutong District were yesterday delighted at the opportunity to personally greet His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in the get-together ceremony for His Majesty’s 75th birthday celebration.
Held in accordance with the standard operating procedures issued by the Ministry of Health (MoH), the much-anticipated ceremony went smoothly according to plan at the Tutong District Civic Centre Complex grounds.
After touching down at the helipad near the residence of the Tutong District Officer, His Majesty and members of the royal family proceeded to the Tutong District Civic Centre Complex.
Crowds of schoolchildren waving miniature flags gathered along the route, to give a rousing welcome to His Majesty and members of the royal family.
Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.
On arrival, His Majesty and members of the royal family were greeted by Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, who is also Chairman of the National Executive Committee for His Majesty’s 75th birthday celebration; and Acting Tutong District Officer Ajmin bin Haji Meludin.
A colourful performance titled Raja Terbilang, Negara Cemerlang was showcased on stage by 275 performers, who portrayed the reverence and loyalty of a village community to their sovereign through song and drama.
After the performance, His Majesty and members of the royal family proceeded to the stage platform to meet with the performers and for the cutting of His Majesty’s birthday cakes.
This was followed with the traditional get-together with the residents of Tutong District.
The ceremony concluded with His Majesty proceeding to the Tutong District Civic Centre Complex hall for a lunch reception.
The get-together ceremony in Tutong District was the first in a series of four such events for each district. The next get-together ceremony will take place tomorrow in Temburong District.
