VOLUNTEERS from Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) organised a morning of fun and games for children of Paediatric Ward and Paediatric Clinic of Suri Seri Begawan (SSB) Hospital, Kuala Belait yesterday.
This was held as part of the company’s project titled ‘90 Acts of Kindness’. Forty volunteers from BSP took part in the event organised by the company to celebrate their 90th anniversary. The campaign to visit the hospital was aimed at encouraging volunteerism and gotong-royong.
BSP Senior External Relations Advisor Suffian Zainal led the volunteers who were split into two groups. One group tended to the patients at the Paediatric Ward, while the other organised activities such as drawing, colouring, arts and crafts, story-telling and reading.
“It was an excellent experience and hopefully our small efforts make a difference. I enjoyed making these children smile,” said HSE Systems and Culture Lead at BSP Mohd Radhi bin Noror Gumiet.
He added that he has always been interested in humanitarian work and the project provides the platform to fulfil that interest.
Legal Graduate from BSP’s Legal and Land Department Farah Haris Jamil said, “This particular Act of Kindness aligns with my personal aspiration to give back and make an impact to a part of our community that is close to my heart – children. I feel fulfilled and blessed and I couldn’t imagine a better way to spend my morning.”
Throughout the first quarter of 2019, several BSP staff conducted their own ‘Acts of Kindness’ activities which total to 57 by now.
This year marks a milestone for BSP since the discovery of commercial quantities of oil in the Seria Field in 1929. Carrying the theme ‘Honouring the Past, Making the Future’, the 90th anniversary symbolises the long partnership between the Government of Brunei Darussalam and the Royal Dutch Shell.
