Virtual expo offers closer look at programmes

Politeknik Brunei (PB) will join the Higher Education Virtual Expo 2021 to interact with the public via live chat and video conferencing, while abiding by the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) COVID-19 guidelines.

The virtual expo will also host webinars through Zoom, including – procedures for PB Admission (PBAS) Usage Guide; and introduction of the new programmes offered by the School of Science and Engineering (SSE), PB, Lumut Campus.

The public can gain access through the Higher Education Expo portal at from February 15-21.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to the establishment of PB in a titah delivered during the Teacher’s Day celebration on October 18, 2008, to accelerate the country’s human resources development, emphasised by the National Development Plan and Brunei Vision 2035.

PB opened in January 2012 introducing nine two-year Advanced Diploma programmes in Business, ICT and Science and Engineering.

In July 2015, PB revamped its Advanced Diploma programmes and began offering three-year Level 5 Diploma programmes to students with a minimum qualification of five GCE ‘O’ Level credits (based on relevant subjects), as well as those with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) qualifications. The Level 5 Diploma qualification is equivalent to a Higher National Diploma (HND) and accredited by Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council (BDNAC), Ministry of Education.

PB also worked with stakeholders and industry players with the introduction of six programmes – three Level 5 Diplomas in Health Science programmes in Cardiovascular Technology, Environmental Health and Diabetes Nurse Educator in cooperation with the MoH; a Level 5 Diploma in Laboratory Technology and a Level 5 Diploma in Chemical Engineering in collaboration with Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd; and five Level 5 Diploma in Telecommunications and Systems Engineering, Level 5 Diploma in Power Plant and Power System Technology, Level 5 Diploma in Storage and Transportation Technology, Level 5 Diploma in Thermal Power Plant Technology and Level 5 Diploma in Water Treatment Technology.

Another collaboration with the Manpower Industry Steering Committee (MISC) ICT and Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), through the Brunei ICT Industry Competency Framework (BIICF), resulted in a Level 5 Diploma in Data Analytics.

PB was also awarded the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 on November 27, 2017 by Bureau Veritas (BV), making it the first higher education institution in Brunei Darussalam to be fully certified, particularly in providing Level 5 Diploma education in Business, Information and Communication Technology and Science and Engineering.
