Vietnam embassy celebrates 79th National Day, hails bilateral ties with Brunei

The Vietnam Embassy in Brunei Darussalam celebrated its country’s 79th National Day on Saturday, with its ambassador hailing the strengthening of diplomatic and economic ties with the Sultanate. 

Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin attended the celebration. 

Vietnam Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Tran Anh Vu praised the growing relationship between Vietnam and Brunei Darussalam, noting that the two countries have enjoyed strong and friendly ties since establishing diplomatic relations in 1992.

He also pointed to the significant increase in two-way trade between Vietnam and Brunei in 2024, which has nearly tripled compared to the previous year. The ambassador highlighted Brunei’s position as the 20th largest investor in Vietnam, with increasing collaboration in sectors such as energy, logistics, the Halal industry, and fisheries.

In addition to economic cooperation, the Ambassador underscored the importance of cultural and educational exchanges between the two nations. He mentioned the recent visit of the Vietnamese Navy Tallship Le Quy Don to Brunei, which facilitated fruitful exchanges with the Royal Brunei Navy. The collaboration between the University of Brunei Darussalam and Vietnamese universities, particularly through the successful Vietnamese language program at UBD, was also noted as a key area of partnership.

The Ambassador concluded his speech by expressing his appreciation to various Bruneian government agencies and partners for their support in fostering Vietnam-Brunei cooperation. He also thanked the Vietnamese community in Brunei for their role in strengthening the bond between the two countries. – FADLEY FAISAL
