A total of 252 individuals including students from Sultan Hassan Secondary School and Temburong religious schools as well as Temburong Youth Volunteers, came together to put on a vibrant performance for His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 76th birthday celebration in Temburong District yesterday.

The performance, themed ‘Raja Untuk Rakyat dan Rakyat Untuk Raja’, comprised 28 minutes of musical theatre and a grand finale.

The performance depicted the familial role in important events amid challenging times.

Siti Hawa binti Haji Kamis, co-chair of the special performance, told the Bulletin, “We started practising for the special performance from June 27 until July 18. This year’s performance showcased a musical theatre with the addition of a new Brunei record for ‘Jalinan Kelupis Terpanjang’ involving 7,676 pieces of kelupis.”

She added, “I have been involved in His Majesty’s birthday celebration since 2010. I was also a performer in 1996, after I finished my studies at Al-Azhar University. I’m very proud and honoured to be involved in this special performance.

“I also wrote the songs used in the performance. I think I will feel something is missing if I am not involved.” Siti Hawa also conveyed her birthday greetings to the monarch: “As a subject, I would like to express my gratitude and love to His Majesty for gracing the get-together with the residents of Temburong District. I pray for His Majesty to be blessed with good health and prosperity, and continue to lead the country under the guidance from Allah the Almighty.”
