A two-vehicle collision along the Hassanal Bolkiah Highway saw one of the vehicles going up in flames on Sunday.
Nine firefighters from Berakas Fire Station led by Station Officer Norhermi bin Md Nor sprang into action after a 2.40pm distress call was received, according to the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD). The firefighters arrived to find the front of a black vehicle on fire. Using a crowbar, they cracked open the bonnet and extinguished the flames, before it had spread its reach.
The accident victim was ferried to Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital before firefighters arrived at the scene.
The FRD reminded the public to ensure the road worthiness of their vehicles and to regularly check the wiring system. Modifications or additions to the electrical system of the engine and car accessories must also be in accordance with set standards.
The FRD said high electric current could cause cables to burn.
