Vehicle goes up in flames

A vehicle involved in an accident with another, caught fire at Jalan Lorong Tengah Seria yesterday and was completely gutted. The driver, an Indian national, escaped unhurt.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD), eight firefighters from Seria Fire Station responded to the emergency call at 7.24am.

Led by Station Officer Haji Sulaiman bin Haji Yusof, firefighters used two jet hoses with one firefighter equipped with breathing equipment to combat the blaze.

The fire was brought under control within five minutes. The owner of the other car involved in the accident, a local woman, was also unhurt.

The FRD advised the public to ensure that their vehicle is in proper condition and to regularly check the wiring system.

Road users must ensure that modifications or additions to the electrical system of the engine and car accessories and wiring must be in accordance with the standards, said the FRD, adding that high electric current of the vehicle could cause the cable to burn.
