Scientific findings “have shown that two doses of vaccines can provide good protection against the adverse effects of COVID-19, however three doses of vaccines have been found to provide high and additional protection against the negative effects”. This was shared by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah at a press conference yesterday.
The latest findings on the situation of COVID-19 in Brunei Darussalam were based on the study and an evaluation by the COVID-19 Steering Committee.
From the findings, he cited “this indicates the effectiveness of the National Vaccination Programme which has succeeded in significantly reducing the number of cases severely affected by COVID-19”.
The minister urged the public, especially the elderly and those with chronic diseases to get the third COVID-19 vaccine as soon as they are eligible to receive it.
Continuous epidemiological monitoring has shown that the number of cases in Categories 4 and 5 during the third wave are lower than the first and second waves. During the first wave, statistics show cases in Categories 4 and 5 was 450 individuals for every 10,000 cases, while in the second wave it was 60 individuals for every 10,000 cases. In the third wave however, data shows there are six cases per 10,000 people.
