UTB goes pink to support breast cancer awareness

Talks on breast cancer awareness were held at the Lecture Theatre 2, Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) Library Complex in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month taking place in October.

The event was co-organised by Student Affairs Office of UTB and UTB Student Representative Council (MPPUTB) in conjunction with UTB’s 6th Convocation Festival.

About 50 attendees comprising principal officers, staff and students of UTB gathered and dressed in pink to support the Breast Cancer Awareness.

The talks were presented by the Brunei Breast Cancer Support Group (BBCSG).

President of BBCSG Hajah Aminah binti Haji Momin delivered a talk on Life Experience of a Breast Cancer Journey by sharing an inspiring story of her fight with breast cancer from diagnosis to remission.

Meanwhile, Secretary of BBCSG Datin Hajah Jaliha binti Haji Momin explained on creating awareness on breast cancer by educating the audience about the importance of breast cancer screenings, early detection and healthy living.

“Breast cancer is not something that only affects women. It also develops in men where any abnormality in the breast should be brought to the attention of doctors or health care providers,” she said.

“Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in Brunei,” the Secretary of BBCSG said, adding that “by raising awareness about cancer, we are able to educate, inspire and empower people to under-stand the disease and promote early detection.”
