US envoy looks forward to strengthen ties

UNITED States (US) Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Matthew J Matthews said he looks forward to returning to the Indo-Pacific to work with the government and people of Brunei to further strengthen the friendship the two nations have maintained since 1850.

Matthews presented his Letter of Credence to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at Istana Nurul Iman on April 15.

Prior to his nomination to be the 13th US Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Matthews served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands and as the Ambassador for APEC.

Matthews was sworn in as the US Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam on March 29 in Washington, DC.
