The United States (US) Embassy in Brunei Darussalam hosted a celebration of the 246th US Independence Day recently at the residence of US Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Caryn McClelland.

Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar was the guest of honour.

The minister received a set of grilling tools as a token of appreciation, keeping with the American backyard barbeque theme.

Ambassador McClelland lauded US-Brunei cooperation in a host of areas, ranging from enhancing regional security to combatting climate change to strengthening people-to-people connections through professional and academic exchange programmes. “The US and Brunei Darussalam are partnering in more ways than ever before,” said the ambassador.

“In many ways, the pandemic forced us to be more creative about how we collaborate to solve mutual challenges, but it never diminished our resolve to work together for the betterment of our countries and the Indo-Pacific region,” she added.

She also reiterated the Biden Administration’s commitment to enhance US relations with its regional partners to support post-pandemic recovery, strengthen economic ties, promote environmental sustainability and maritime cooperation, and improve connectivity.

US exchange programme alumni Aisyah Zulkarnain and Basil Ali Witsga performed the national anthems of both countries.
