In today’s digital age where information is shared widely and rapidly, commitment to accuracy and credibility is crucial, said United States (US) Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Caryn R McClelland during her welcoming remarks at a media appreciation dinner at the ambassador’s residence on Thursday.
The ambassador paid tribute to the important work of journalists in the Sultanate. “The work that you do is incredibly important in shaping conversation,” she said.
She added, “Ahead of the US presidential election in November, tonight, you have the opportunity to learn how our electoral process works. Election is the prime example of US democracy in action and the power of citizens to shape the future of their government and thus, their country.
“This year is special not just because of the presidential election but also because we are celebrating 40 years of diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and the US.
“As we mark four decades of friendship, we continue to strengthen our collaboration in areas like education, economic development, climate change and security.”
“In line with these priorities, the US embassy is also committed to supporting capacity-building programmes for journalists and content creators through exchange programmes and press tours,” the ambassador said. – James Kon
