Bruneians are urged to uphold the national philosophy of the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) which can act as a shield against social ills such as the misuse of drugs.
“Our national identity and philosophy MIB is a shield to prevent the misuse of drugs to produce a harmonious society,” said panellist Haji Metussin bin Orang Kaya Sura Haji Tuba at a forum to mark International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, themed ‘Joint Prevention, Prosperous Nation according to MIB’.
The event was held at Mukim Bokok Community Hall in Temburong District yesterday.
“We are facing challenges degrading our mind and culture which affect our philosophy such as the emergence of modern culture. However we should not give up hope and continue to help our society and family,” he added.
It is a joint involvement from all walks of life to prevent the misuse of drugs. The basis of prevention is also found in Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) Hadith, he said.
Meanwhile, another panellist Haji Mail bin Besar touched on embracing the MIB concept.
He said, embracing MIB has been challenged with law breaking incidents and students engaging in criminal activities. “We need to strengthen MIB for it to be continuously upheld in the Sultanate.”
He said a joint effort between the nation’s enforcement officers and communities are crucial to safeguard the country against smuggling activities.
Also present was Acting Temburong District Officer Pengiran Muhammad Ameer Mubarak bin Pengiran Haji Hashim. The forum was organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau in collaboration with Radio Television Brunei (RTB) and Islamic Da’wah Centre, Temburong District branch.
