Unlocking mysteries of kitchen chemistry

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) hosted the ‘Kitchen Chemistry’ science show yesterday with award winning science communicator from University of East Anglia (UEA) Professor Stephen Ashworth presenting the show at the Pro Chancellor Arts Centre, UBD.

Professor Ashworth has many years of experience engaging audiences in the United Kingdom
and internationally.

The team comprised UEA Associate Professor Dr Sue Matthews; Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education (SHBIE) UBD Assistant Professor Dr Roslinawati binti Mohd Roslan; and Associate Professor Dr Masitah Shahrill, Teacher Educator from SHBIE, UBD.

Professor Ashworth aims to inspire the new generation of scientists by demonstrating chemistry in action using familiar, everyday material and unsophisticated equipment.

The show was made available to the public, particularly students. ‘Kitchen Chemistry’ is part of a British Council-funded collaboration between UBD and UEA. UBD and UEA recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote cooperation, discussions and academic relations.

In addition to collaboration on joint research projects, the two universities look forward to the exchange of students and academic staff.
