University launches women engineering society

Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) launched the Brunei Affiliate of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) on Tuesday.

“The event marked an important step towards supporting and advancing the careers of women engineers in the country,” according to the university in a statement.

UTB Vice-Chancellor Datin Paduka Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman and United States Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Caryn McClelland officiated the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The event concluded with a symbolic presentation of SWE certificate of accreditation from the ambassador to the vice-chancellor, signifying the official establishment of the Brunei affiliate of SWE.

The society aims to support and advance the careers of women engineers in Brunei and will focus on professional development, outreach activities, and creating connections for career opportunities, tailored to the needs of women in the engineering field within Brunei.
