Universities ink MoU, agreement boosting collaboration

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and a student exchange agreement yesterday at UBD, to affirm their academic collaboration.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle signed on behalf of UBD and President Professor Freddy Boey, on behalf of CityUHK.

UBD and CityUHK senior management and staff were also in attendance.

The two universities first signed an MoU in May 2023 focusing on the collaboration in technology transfer, commercialisation and business matching through the HK Tech 300 Southeast Asia Startup Competition. The partnership resulted in students given access to CityUHK’s  Master’s programme in MSc Venture Creation and the adoption of best practices for entrepreneurship and innovation education.

In the recent MoU and student exchange agreement, both institutions will strengthen academic and research collaborations in different areas of mutual interest.

Following the MoU and student exchange agreement signing, the CityUHK delegation toured several lab facilities on campus where they were briefed on the various research and education activities conducted.

The delegation also toured UBD’s Botanical Research Centre guided by UBD’s Director for Institute for Biodiversity and Environmental Research Dr Hussein Haji Taha.

CityUHK is ranked within the top 62 and top 82 universities in the world in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2025 and Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2024.

In Asia, the university is ranked 14th and 15th best university in the latest QS and THE Asia University rankings.
