Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) through its Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with HalaSalam Corporation (B) Sdn Bhd yesterday to collaborate on the university’s students attachment matters, workshops, seminars and forums.
UNISSA was represented by Acting Registrar Zalinawati binti Haji Mohaimin and Dean of Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre Associate Professor Dr Nurdeng Deuraseh, while HalaSalam Corporation (B) Sdn Bhd was represented by its Managing Director Haji Sabri bin Haji Mohd Taha and Executive Chairman Haji Matassan bin Abdul Salim.
UNISSA Rector Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal witnessed the signing.
The ceremony also saw a forum held on ‘The effect on Halal food and tourism sector in time of COVID-19’, where specialists and industry practitioners discussed the role of Halal food amid the coronavirus outbreak last year.
The panellists, comprising Associate Professor Dr Nurdeng Deuraseh, Tourism Development Department Acting Director Salinah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Holistic Services Management Managing Director Haji Sabri bin Haji Mohd and Development Corporation Malaysia Manager Hanafi Jamiat, noted the global concerns on the supply and demand of Halal food, the decreasing number of Haj and Umrah pilgrims, and the impact on tourism.
The forum also discussed the aspects of Halalan Thayyiban’s role in maintaining and protecting the integrity of Islam.
