UNISSA delegation attends AIUA Meeting

A DELEGATION from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) led by the Rector of UNISSA Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, recently attended the 8th Meeting of Asian Islamic Universities Association (AIUA) held at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University (UIN) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia from July 3-5.

The discussion of this year’s AIUA meeting was about guiding the provision of seven key strategic plans on quality assurance, dissemination of knowledge, joint research and economic business partners.

AIUA currently comprises 63 Islamic universities from the Asian region and is a platform for Islamic higher education in the Asian region to develop Asian-level cooperation encompassing the promotion of Islamic higher education and enhancing the competitiveness in the international arena, strengthening partnership-based collaboration and enhancing the recognition of eligibility.

The association also strives to enhance collaboration among members in various fields, such as exchanging of lecturers and students, expanding curricula and credit transfers, sharing of facilities, information and materials, collaboration in research and development (R&D) projects as well as jointly organising conferences and activities at a global level.

The 8th Meeting of AIUA was chaired by Professor Drs K H Yudian Wahyudi, the Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga and President of the AIUA.

A press release by UNISSA also notes that this year’s meeting continued with the Islamic Education Institute Conference, which was officiated by Dr Arskal Salim, Director of Islamic Higher Education, who is also the Director of Islamic Education at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Yogyakarta.
