UNISSA celebrates 15 years of progress in Islamic education, research studies

Marking its 15-year journey since inception, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) stands steadfast in its commitment to progress, equality, and the delivery of essential Islamic education and research to the nation. Rector of UNISSA Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal underscored this during the 13th UNISSA Hafl Al-Takharruj (Convocation Ceremony) at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas yesterday.

The rector highlighted the university’s ongoing pursuit of enhanced efficiency and equality in its services. Dr Haji Norarfan emphasised that a strategic assessment mechanism remains integral to the university’s pursuit of academic and administrative excellence. This continuous evaluation involves the establishment of precise benchmarks that govern the university’s academic and administrative management systems.

With unwavering dedication and collective cooperation, UNISSA achieved a significant milestone – a five-star rating for the period of 2023-2026 – based on the international rating system administered by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Assessment agency. This accolade spans multiple categories, including teaching, employability, academic development, internationalisation, and facilities. While community engagement and inclusiveness categories garnered four-star ratings, the achievement affirms UNISSA’s commitment to international standards of excellence. Dr Haji Norarfan detailed that the rigorous assessment was conducted by the QS Intelligence Unit headquartered in London, which evaluates university rankings through the QS World Universities Ranking. The rector underscored the significance of this five-star recognition as a testament to UNISSA’s burgeoning global reputation and acceptance.

Additionally, this year witnessed UNISSA’s credibility on the global stage receiving a boost through several recognitions. Notable among these is the Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) Award, alongside the university’s continued impressive performance in the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), consistently securing a position within the top 201-300.

Bolstering its commitment to academic advancement, UNISSA is diligently aligning its academic offerings with the nation’s developmental needs. In the forthcoming semester, UNISSA is set to introduce new programmes at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels.

These offerings include the Postgraduate Diploma in Da’ie and Leadership programme, Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Aquaculture), as well as Master’s and PhD programmes in Aquaculture, and Halal Science and Innovation.

As UNISSA charts its course forward, its unwavering dedication to excellence, growth, and innovation remains its guiding light, propelling both the institution and the nation towards a brighter, more knowledge-rich future. – Rokiah Mahmud
