Unearthing talents in Islamic poetry reading

Abdul Majid bin Haji Shazli from Kampong Kulapis Mosque and Norzafinawati binti Mohamamd Hanafi from Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque clinched the top spots in the male and female categories for the National Islamic Poetry Reading Competition yesterday in conjunction with the school holidays.

The competition was organised by the Mosque Affairs Department in collaboration with the Takmir committee of Utama Mohammad Salleh Mosque in Pekan Bangar, and the Temburong District Mosque Affairs Office.

Acting Director of Mosque Affairs at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Pengiran Haji Haslin bin Pengiran Haji Ali attended as the guest of honour.

The event is held annually by the Library Division of the Mosque Affairs Department and aims to unearth talents in Islamic poetry and help participants to boost their

self-confidence and fluency in public speaking.

A total of 11 male and female mosque youth took part in the competition.
