Underprivileged groups receive donations

Some 80 recipients from Kampong Salambigar, Kampong Lambak Kanan and Kampong Sungai Hanching received donations from TM Majeed Group subsidiary Orbit Supermarket Sdn Bhd yesterday.

The campaign was carried out via a drive-through at the Orbit Supermarket premises in Kampong Sungai Orok, Jalan Muara. The recipients, comprising selected orphans, senior citizens and underprivileged groups, received BND60 worth of basic necessities and cash.

The campaign this year marked the 14th year the supermarket seeks to lessen the burdens of the underprivileged and bring joy to Ramadhan.

On hand to present the donations were TM Majeed Group management team Ali Akber, Ferose Khan and Anwar Ali.

Also present was Village Head of Kampong Sungai Hanching and Kampong Salambigar Haji Abdul Rahman bin Safar.

Orbit Supermarket Managing Director Anwar Ali said, “I thank Allah the Almighty for giving us the strength to organise this event continuously for the past 14 years.

“Our gratitude shall always be due to the government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for their efforts during this pandemic to make such an event possible.”

Meanwhile, some 59 orphans from Mukim Saba, Mukim Tamoi and Mukim Sungai Kebun in Brunei-Muara District were treated to a sungkai by Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sdn Bhd (BSM) at Serambi Batil, Tarindak D’Seni in the heart of the capital on Wednesday.

BSM Managing Director Muhammad Norshafiee bin Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil attended as the guest of honour.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa by Head of Retail Business Haji Shahruddin bin Haji Abdul Wahid followed by a religious talk by guest speaker Siti Noraziah binti Haji Asli from Islamic Da’wah Centre titled ‘Menyantuni Anak Yatim’ (‘Helping Orphans’).

The event then proceeded with the presentation of donations to the orphans.

Suasana Mentari Engineering Services Sdn Bhd (SMES) also handed donations to 35 families in an event on Wednesday.

The selected families received BND300 and goodie bags each. The donations were part of the company’s initiative to help the less fortunate in Belait District and enliven Ramadhan and prepare for Hari Raya celebrations.

The event was held in their main office at the Light Industrial Area, Kuala Belait.

SMES Managing Director Yusuf bin Haji Othman and SMES Chief Executive Director Kelvin Kong welcomed the family representatives. Also present was Posh Qifly, who gave his support in finding and aiding those in need.

Meanwhile, the Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei received a donation from BOZA Group of Companies at the SMARTER Jalan Sungai Hanching branch yesterday.

The donation was presented by BOZA Group of Companies Chief Executive Officer Khairol Yazimannuddin bin Haji Borhanuddin to SMARTER Brunei President Pengiran Zamri bin Pengiran Haji Bujang.

According to the CEO, the donation was part of the company’s annual welfare programme to give back using their own funds.

BOZA Group of Companies plans to make another donation to the Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA) in the near future.
