Ultimate star wars collectible up for auction

UPI – A rare prototype 1979 Star Wars Boba Fett action figure, deemed the pinnacle of collectibles, is now available for auction.

Goldin Auctions announced that the Kenner 1979 J-Slot (Version 2) Rocket-Firing (Mailer) Prototype Boba Fett, one of just 30 produced, is the highest-graded example among the three known to exist and the first to be auctioned.

Manufactured as a prototype in 1979, the toy never reached the market due to safety concerns over its firing rocket. In June, a similar Boba Fett figure set a record as the most expensive vintage toy ever sold, fetching USD525,000. That version was one of 70 prototypes featuring an ‘L-slot’ firing mechanism.

Goldin Auctions stated that their offering is the first ‘J-slot’ Boba Fett to be auctioned. “This piece is considered one of the most significant in the collecting community,” said Goldin founder and Chief Executive Officer Ken Goldin.

“This marks the first time a Mailer J-Slot V2/Missile example has been available at auction, presenting a unique opportunity to own this legendary Star Wars collectible,” he added.

The auction listing describes the toy as the pinnacle of Star Wars collectibles, “comparable in prestige and demand to the T-206 Honus Wagner baseball card and the 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle card”.
