Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) is the first local university to be ranked for its engineering excellence by the Times Higher Education (THE) World Rankings. It is ranked in the 201-250 band and fourth engineering school in ASEAN alongside National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and Universiti Malaya in Malaysia.

UBD’s emphasis on a high-quality design-centric, broad-based engineering education with an innovative curriculum had led to the success of its engineering programme where the undergraduate GenNext Engineering curriculum has been developed through collaborative works with world-leading technological universities such as Stevens Institute of Technology, United States (US) and Zhejiang University, China.

This success draws inspiration and guidance from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

The monarch, who is also the Chancellor of UBD, in his Titah during the 25th UBD Convocation Ceremony in 2013, expressed hopes that the newly established Faculty of Integrated Technology (FIT) and reintroduction of the engineering programme would become internationally recognised as a centre for engineering excellence.

Dean of FIT Dr Juliana binti Haji Zaini noted that the staff and students of FIT have always been committed and passionate about excellence in teaching and highly impactful research.Being ranked among the best engineering schools in the region is the result of the hard work and professionalism of staff and students in FIT.
